Sunny Sunday and Spring Ride Schedule

It was so nice to have a bright sunny day for a change I decided to take Oma out for a long Sunday ride yesterday.  Although she is usually all Dutch practicality from head to toe, she still enjoys a nice slow ride along the lake.  Her upright riding position and naturally slow pace make for great sight-seeing when your on the look for photo ops. Since I didn’t have anyone else along and there were not many other people out on bicycles, Oma had to pose for all the photos.

Just when I started feeling lonely, look who I meet?  d’Andre, Over the Bars guest contributor extraordinaire! Funny but this was our first time meeting in person.  Our collaboration has been purely virtual up until this chance connection along the lakefront path.  Of course, all bundled up, we both recognized each other by our bicycles first.

We both agreed it was nice to meet in person and we should plan some regular get-together rides for this Spring for readers of Over the Bars.  In honor of our meeting on a Sunday, what do you think of a series of rides for  Sunday Bicycle Brunch?  We could schedule the dates this winter and meet at a different cafe in different neighborhoods each ride. What about the first and second Sunday of each month beginning in April?  No RSVPs necessary, we will post the brunch destination, just ride on over if you are free.

Are you interested in joining us once in a while? Is two times a month too frequent?  too infrequent?  Suggestions for restaurants?  If enough people like this idea, I will put up a calendar page here to post the rides.  If you have other ideas for rides, feel free to suggest those too.  Perhaps this could be a way to resurrect the dormant Royal Dutch Bicycle Club.

    Super idea, Dave!

Cafe at The Plaza on Cass and Juneau is a good one!

  2. Dave Reid says:

Sounds fun… I’ll join in for some.

Sounds like a great idea and having two rides a month gives people a chance to attend if they can’t make it the prior weekend. MKE has so many great cafes we may need to ask the calendar printers to add more weekends to 2011.

That is my thought behind two Sunday rides a month. I can’t promise to make two brunch rides each month, but providing the option of two weekends will mean more people are able to participate overall.

Definitely. May not make 2 a month, but great to have the options. I would push for the Amaranth Cafe on Lisbon. Also, Izzy’s on 27th and State.

    Great idea.

Ideal suggestions Peter. I think the rides will also serve to highlight the assets in some of Milwaukee’s lesser touted neighborhoods.

  5. d'Andre says:

I’m in favor of any gatherings that create a need for more weekends. Great to meet you in person, Dave!

  6. Kurt says:

I’d be there as often as possible, great idea!

    Great idea, I’m in.
