Steve,

I am aware of that and have had conversations with a number of folks from Sheboygan and the WDNR. That issue is on the Bike Fed's radar. FYI, this used to be my personal blog when I was the Bike Coordinator for the City of Milwaukee Dept. of Public Works. It is now innactive, but all these posts have been archived on the Bike Fed's blog, which I now maintain. Check it out here: http://bfw.org/2012/12/06/crushing-gravel-preparing-for-my-first-gravel-road-race/

FYI- We have learned from our local warden that beach riding is illegal in Wisconsin state parks. We have been doing winter rides on the beach for the past 15+ years, going right through Terry- Andre park and depending on what park ranger is on duty will determine whether or not you get a fine. In the winter months the beach changes daily with the winds and I highly doubt we're doing any damage at all to the shoreline. I would like to see the law in black and white, but I have not been able to find anything.

Coincidentally, my name is also Brad, and I agree with above Brad most vehemently! We don't own bikes like this, we take care of them for future generations. This bike has been entrusted to you! It's a special model, based on the stem and pedals. Research will be fun and rewarding. Clearly it was beloved by its original owner, and seeing it makes one long to know him and thank him for his stewardship. I appreciate your creativity and desire to personalize, but one day you will hate yourself if you even clean this bike too much. You should feel kinship with the owner and all who know and appreciate such bikes. Think of the generations of designers and riders who evolved such an elegant beauty, the skilled and conscientious workmen who built her. Much of what has been produced since is frivolous, not meant to last nor should they. Few bikes have such dignity. ... Now I'm chuckling at how I'm carrying on, but I do really mean it! I have dreams in which I find myself in the company of cyclists and bike racers from the past and in a sepia toned scene we share a profound and wordless bond, the knowledge of what was won and what has been lost with their passing. That bike is a time machine that connects us to them. While it lives, so too do those who loved her so long ago.

Fun to read about your beach ride. My little group just did about 20 miles on the beach in Northern Michigan this past weekend. Aside from the lightening/hail/punishing headwind, we had a blast trying to find remotely hard-packed sand, as we couldn't get near the water's edge. Our 20 mile ride felt like a hilly century to me! Oh, did I mentiion the water spouts? Yes, water spouts. Wow.
