Third Annual Wisconsin Bike Summit Announced

The Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin officially announced the date and schedule for this years state bike summit.  Check this link for details at the Bike Fed website.  Unless another volcano blows it’s top, this year’s keynote speaker will be Andreas Rohl, the head of Copenhagen’s bicycle program!  I saw a presentation by Andreas in Washington, D.C. at a previous National Bike Summit, and it was inspiring to say the least. Even though I had been to Copenhagen, his presentation blew me away.

The third annual Wisconsin Bicycle Summit will be held April 19th in Madison, WI. The summit is a gathering of all people from across the state who are intersted in making their state and local communities better places to ride bicycles. There will be workshops and legislative meetings throughout the day, in addition to opportunities to socialize with bicycle industry leaders and other cyclists from across the state.

Whether you are a racer, mountain biker, commuter, or recreational rider, you owe it to yourself and to bicycling to come to the summit.  The summit is more than an organized bicycle lobby day, it is one of the best bicycle networking opportunities you will ever have.

Everyone in the state of Wisconsin interested in making their community more bicycle friendly should try to be at the summit. With the newly elected leaders in the state and tough economic climate, it is critical that people show up and help spread the word that spending tax dollars on bicycle infrastructure is perhaps the most cost effective transporation investment the state can make.  Every dollar spent making Wisconsin an even more bicycle friendly state will not only have a postive return on investment that we will see on the bottom line, but it will also improve the health and vitality of our cities, towns, villages and the citizens of this great state.

As John Burke, the president of Trek, is fond of saying, “The world is run by those people who show up.”  If you don’t show up, you can’t complain.  I hope to see you all there.
