Queen’s Day

OK all you queens and fans of anything Dutch, don something orange, get on your city bikes and ride to Cafe Hollander in Wauwatosa this Saturday, April 30th at 1pm to celebrate Queen Beatrix’s birthday with Milwaukee’s first annual Koninginnedag’s Ride.

Konninginnedag is a national holiday in the Netherlands to celebrate Queen Beatrix’s birthday. Queen B’s birthday is actually January 31st, but in their usual bike-friendly manner, the Dutch celebrate it April 30th when we have nicer weather.

Everyone will meet at Cafe Hollander in Wauwatosa at 1pm.  We will hang, chat, raise a Dutch beer to toast Queen B and then ride down to Cafe Central for another Dutch experience.  After that the ride may continue to still more Dutch Cafe’s, but I will probably need to head back home as my parents are in town visiting to celebrate my Queen Frances’ birthday (my daughter who is 15).

In the spirit of the Netherlands, you are encouraged to wear orange  and ride a Dutch-style city bike if you have one.  If you prefer to kit up, perhaps you have a Rabobank or other Dutch jersey you could sport.  The pace of the ride to Central will be conversational.  I plan on being back on the west side by 3:30pm or so, but if the spirit moves you to continue on, there are quite a few other Dutch themed cafes to hit in Milwaukee.

Meet at 1pm at Cafe Hollander

One Response to Queen’s Day

Actually, Beatrix’s chose to celebrate her birthday on the date of her mother Julianna’s date of birth. Lang leve de koningin…! (Long live the Queen)
